Healthcare, Software and Marketing were once again the industries that used eLearning software the most, while California, New York and Texas topped the list of states where corporate eLearning programs were prominent.
Palo Alto, Calif. — November 21, 2013 — Mindflash has released results of its latest research on corporate eLearning, a process that began in July and included data from hundreds of thousands of eLearning software users. The Mindflash Q3 eLearning Report analyzed the top industries and regions for corporate eLearning use and investment, and highlighted trends in gender and situational training. This is the second eLearning report from Mindflash this year.
According to the Q3 report, Healthcare remains in the top spot among industries that used eLearning software, comprising 6.53% compared to 8.45% in the second quarter of 2013. While Healthcare traditionally has been conservative in its uptake of new technologies, eLearning software is an exception because of healthcare’s pressing needs for cost containment and compliance. Following Healthcare on the list of the most common industries for online training are Software, Marketing, Telecommunications and Nonprofit – the latter of which replaces Education from the previous quarter’s report. The industries that have invested the most in eLearning (as a percentage) include Healthcare, Software, Marketing, Telecommunications and Financial Services. And though they didn’t make the list of top industries in usage or spending, Retail and Food & Beverages were among the top five industries in terms of course completion.
For the second quarter in a row, California, New York and Texas respectively are the top three states for eLearning. Population of the nation’s three largest states may play a role but likely of more importance is the high percentage of corporate headquarters in these states. Georgia replaced Washington as a top five eLearning state in the third quarter.
The survey also compiled data on trainer demographics, showing that eLearning trainers are split nearly equally between men and women. Statistically, there is negligible difference in student passing rates based on whether the course was taught by a male or female. “The nature of eLearning seems to democratize the process of learning,” says Randhir Vieira, vice president of product and marketing at Mindflash. “In a classroom, a student may have a proclivity toward a male or female instructor, but this is not the case when learning online. eLearning is not only a convenient and affordable alternative or supplement to live classroom trainings, but it’s also a more vendor neutral learning space as well.”
