Johnson Health Tech and Mindflash
About the Company:
Johnson Health Tech is a Taiwan-based manufacturer of commercial and residential fitness equipment. The company consists of a network of roughly 180 sales representatives for seven brands such as Matrix, Vision and LIVESTRONG in more than 18 countries, with employees speaking several languages worldwide.
Johnson used to conduct 100% of its training in-person, but lacked a centralized director of training to manage the company’s needs. Without company-wide oversight over training, content and effectiveness were highly varied between countries, and Johnson employees received a different standard of training in each office. Beyond problems of inconsistency, this system also resulted in duplicated efforts throughout offices, wasted time and unnecessarily high internal training costs.
Realizing the lack of consistency across the company and the need for a revamped training program, Johnson hired a Director of Education and Sales Training, Jocelyn Vande Velde. Jocelyn determined online training was the most efficient solution and finding the right technology became her top priority. Jocelyn was specifically looking for rapid course development tools that could easily be translated, thus supporting her international team and her need for fast deployment of training solutions. Jocelyn spent a considerable amount of time searching for online training providers to fit Johnson’s needs – a tool to train outside sales reps, employees and in-store personnel in Asia, Europe, South America and North America.
Johnson Health Tech chose Mindflash due to five main factors:
- Ease-of-use – no IT, training or set-up required
- Reasonable pricing (compared to other online training programs, it saves Johnson $200k a year)
- Ability to utilize existing materials (PowerPoint, Word, Video or PDF)
- Option for employees to take training courses anytime, anywhere
- Saves time for trainers by automatically handling time-consuming tasks required for a successful course: sending emails, tracking trainees’ progress, and producing reports that can be viewed online and emailed to colleagues
Johnson Health Tech has developed 71 different courses that have been taken by more than 730 employees to date, with more than 3,500 total courses completed. Courses are delivered in five languages and employees can complete them on their own schedule, wherever they have a computer and Internet access.
“With sales reps in 18 countries speaking five languages, getting everyone up to speed on new products and policies was next to impossible. Mindflash makes it incredibly easy for us to train all of our employees online, and I would estimate it has saved us over $200,000 this year alone.”
